Initially referred to as "A Shining Prince" or "Butterflies for Malcolm," this score involves raising butterflies as a metaphor for Malcolm X's evolution, then releasing them on Malcolm X Blvd for his birthday. It evolved out of a series of experimental works called Mapping Soulville: The BedStuy Remixes which Cousins developed in collaboration with her neighbors to help local youth understand the cultural significance of their Malcolm X Blvd.

Fun Fact: Did you know BedStuy (Brooklyn, NY)'s Reid Avenue was the first street in the US to be renamed after Malcolm X? It was renamed in 1985 -two years before Harlem's famous Lenox Avenue was renamed.
